<br />Enrique de Otal y Ric nació en Fonz (Aragón) en 1844. En noviembre de 1875 llegó a Beijing para ejercer de secretario de tercera clase de la legación española. Entre diciembre de 1875 y mayo de 1876 estuvo en Shanghai y el 1 de junio de 1876 se instaló definitivamente en Beijing, donde residió hasta 1878, fecha en que se le destinó a Estambul. <br /><br />El Archivo de los Barones de Valdeolivos de Fonz, dependiente del Gobierno de Aragón, conserva objetos, fotografías y correspondencia de Otal y Ric.<br /><br />Si bien la mayoría de fotografías del fondo no son atribuibles a Otal y Ric, la colección es una de las principales muestras de imágenes de China en el periodo conservadas en España.
