Destacó como abanderada de la causa para la abolición del vendado de los pies de las mujeres chinas.&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;Bewicke se casó con el comerciante norte-americano Archibald Little &lt;span&gt;(1838–1909)&lt;/span&gt;, un activo emprendedor clave en la apertura del río Yangzi al comercio extranjero. &lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;En &lt;em&gt;The Land of the Blue Gown&lt;/em&gt; (1902), en el que Little trató de "picture in outline the condition of things before the uprising of 1900, that Annus Funestus, and that especially in relation to us foreigners in China", incluyó un centenar de fotografías de diferentes fotógrafos, y entre estas, veinticinco fotografías directamente atribuidas a "Mr. Mencarini". &lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;Las imágenes, que no refieren ni ilustran el contenido del texto, combinan diferentes tipos de las fotografías de Mencarini, incluyendo imágenes de los monjes de Gushan (con dos fotografías no incluidas en ninguna colección) y de vendedores ambulantes. Pero Bewicke seleccionó mayormente fotografías representativas de la faceta más estética de Mencarini, las imágenes más alineadas con el pictorialismo, la tendencia estética predominante en el momento: paisajes, rincones montañosos, composiciones vegetales e íntimas escenas en jardines de montaña por los que Mencarini fue particularmente celebrado en su época. &lt;/span&gt;</text>
